I stumbled upon this charming little space tucked away in the Alexandra area—a cozy library surrounded by a mix of vintage and old-school shops.
Walking through the neighborhood feels like stepping back in time, with traditional bakeries, optical shops, furniture stores, an antique shop, a bird shop, a laundromat, and even some nostalgic food spots.
At the same time, there are also a few modern cafés scattered around, creating an interesting contrast between the past and present. The whole area exudes a peaceful, almost nostalgic vibe, making it a great place to slow down and unwind.
Casual Poet Library is a unique, community-funded shared library with a really fascinating concept.
Every single bookshelf in the library is rented and curated by a different individual, and from what I’ve heard, there are about 180 of them!
This means that each shelf reflects the personal taste and passion of the person who curates it, making the entire collection incredibly diverse and deeply personal.
The space itself feels like a sanctuary for reflection and healing, filled with a carefully selected range of self-improvement books.
Visitors are welcome to sit and read in the library, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. If you want to bring a book home, you can sign up as a member—there’s an annual membership fee of $25 that allows you to borrow the books back. The best part? They’re pretty flexible with returns. If you’re unable to finish a book on time, you can always request an extension, and they’re not too strict about deadlines.
It’s a place that truly encourages slow, mindful reading and personal growth, making it a hidden gem for book lovers and those seeking a little escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
