Essential Oils to improve Mental Well-Being

Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment method that has been used all around the world, even since ancient times. Essential oils are mainly derived from plants, there are 3 main ways of using them; inhale, absorb and consume. Having said that, not every Essential oil is suitable to consume. (please check if the product is edible before consuming)

The part of our brain that processes smell also stores our memories so when we smell something we have stored in our memory, it is retriggered. Just like any other form of memory through different forms, it reminds us of something we may experience or smell before. 

Mood, emotions, feelings sometimes can be overwhelming, sometimes it triggers our anxiety when we suddenly remembered some bad things that happened before. You may use an Essential oil fragrance you like to focus again on the good things and experience, or you can also use these references for uplifting oils that helps you to feel calm and smooth:

1. Frankincense

Frankincense is one of my very favourite Essential oils as it helps lift mood, relaxation, and healing, furthermore balance hormones (especially for women). Alongside, it is scientifically proven that the combination is effective in alleviating depression and may have helped with pain management. (Best to inhale and absorb)

2. Sunrise

I'm not really sure if other brands have this, but I've got it from dōTERRA. It is a blend of Citrus, combining the powerful essences of Wild Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Bergamot, Tangerine, and Clementine with a hint of Vanilla Absolute. I won't suggest this if you dislike Citrus fragrance. But am really loving it because I'm a Citrus lover. (Best to inhale)

3. Wild Orange

And again, if you're not a Citrus lover I will not recommend this. However, for Citrus lovers Wild Orange is one of the Uplifting oils that is fruitful and can be quite an energizing oil. Especially good if you're not well, with Nausea. It can also help indigestion. (Best to inhale and consume)

4. Lavender

Lavender Aromatherapy is commonly used to calm anxiety and the nervous system. Lavender helps in relaxation both mentally and physically, having said that lavender makes it easier to fall asleep and making sleep more soundly and deep. (Best to inhale, absorb and consume)

5. Cedarwood

Cedarwood is commonly used to promote sleep, similar to lavender... Cedarwood is thought to be good for detoxifying and clearing negative emotions. While inhaling Cedarwood, triggers the release of serotonin in the brain which is similar to when you consume melatonin. This Essential oil is useful when you have got sleeping problem or insomnia. I personally love the woody foresty smell, as it makes me feel like I'm in a peaceful forest.. therefore very relaxing.  (Best to inhale and absorb)
