It was a complete coincidence that my ex-colleague decided to host his wedding in Malacca, Malaysia, so I had planned a travel trip together with my other ex-colleagues.
As we gathered to travel over to Malacca to attend the wedding, one of my female ex-colleagues had a brilliant suggestion – why not we go for the attraction too? To wear kebayas and take some beautiful photos together? I had always dreamed of doing this back in my 20s, but never had the chance, so this was the perfect opportunity to finally fulfill that wish.
Although I was excited, I couldn't help but worry about my hair color, which was at a bit of an awkward stage and might not match the traditional elegance of a kebaya. But I decided to go for it anyway. We booked a full package that included makeup, hairstyling, and a 3-hour kebaya rental. However, the shop owner is so kind to tell us we could take the kebayas for a half-day, as long as we returned before closing time they won't charge extra.
If you're wondering about the costs involved, here’s a breakdown in Ringgit (per pax):
- Nyonya clothes set: 48
- Makeup and hairstyling: 150
- Shoe rental: 20
- Photographer shooting: 118 (though we opted not to hire the photographer)
It was a really affordable priced and good experience. It felt like a dream come true – the chance to wear a kebaya, explore Malacca, walking on the street with nonya dress and capture some stunning photos.
The shop itself is massive, brimming with a stunning variety of kebayas in every color and design you can imagine. It’s not just clothing; they also offer an impressive selection of accessories, shoes, bags, and props to complement your look. To top it off, they have a studio on the second floor, perfect for capturing those gorgeous photos in style!
In fact, this place comes highly recommended by my ex-colleague's friend, who had tried their shop before and loved it!
If you love dressing up, snapping beautiful photos, and strolling through touristy areas in a striking outfit, this is the place to get yours and truly shine in traditional kebaya.
