Have you just collected your new BTO HDB Keys?

Before you can get any renovation, you must first check your home for defects. It is important that you report any defects as soon as possible because once your contractor starts work, HDB will not rectify any defects for you.

- Flooring screed to fall is working, waterfalls directly to the floor trap.
- Any debris in the toilet bowls, sink and inside floor trap?
- Is the W.C. flushing system functioning?
- Are there any scratches or stain on the toilet seat covers?

Windows
- Can the windows open & close smoothly?
- Can the windows open fully?
- Any rusty part on the frame, hinge or lock?
- Any cracks or scratches on window panel?
- Is the window screw properly and tighten?
- Is there any missing mechanism?

Door:
- Can the door and gate open & close smoothly?

- Is there any missing mechanism?
- Is the main door peep hole installed properly?

Keys:
- Check all the keys are working.

Power Plugs:
- Check all the power plugs are working.

TV & Telephone Outlet:
- Is the cable TV & telephone outlet old or moldy?
- Is there and crack or other defect on the telephone outlet?
- Is there and crack or other defect on the cable TV outlet?

For your convenience, Here’s a list of recommended stuff you can bring during your first few visits:

#1 Masking tape, #2 Marker, #3 Pen & Paper or Something to write notesUse the masking tape to mark out defects, and the marker to write on the tape. If you need to bring a pen along to write notes anywhere else on the paper or whatever device you have.

#4 Measuring tape: It helps to have a measuring tape on hand in case you need to measure specific areas and vertical space. Some Pillar and Beams are not reflected in your floor plan, so you must take note of them when you visit the house.

#5 Portable chairs (or cardboard): You may be hanging around for quite a bit, so if you can, leave a few portable/foldable chairs in the house. This way, you at least have somewhere to sit while waiting for contractors and deliveries.

#6 Portable Fan: It may be stuffy when you visit, remember there is only natural air ventilation from the windows (if you open it) and it's humid in Singapore.

#7 Toilet paper / Tissue paper: Generally, the whole house may look clean but it may not be as clean as stay-in condition, it's mainly dusty. You’ll need to wash your hands many times (and eventually use the loo), so leave a roll of toilet/tissue paper for convenience.

#8 Drinks: As you may not just visit an hour or two in your new home, you may feel hot and thirsty halfway through visiting. It's good to prepare sufficient water for each person.

#9 Dustbin or plastic bag: There are so many unexpected things that you may discuss with your partner, families or maybe the interior designer/contractor/carpenter, electrician, feng shui master & etc. It's good to bring along a plastic bag for rubbish just in case someone picks up sweet treats, bites or drinks and there's at least a central location in the house to disposed.

#10 Any electronic charger: One of the things many people forget to check is the power points. Bring any electronic device and plug it into all the sockets to make sure they’re working. Phone chargers are the smallest and easy to plug and unplug.

#11 Torchlight/Floor lamp: If you are going to visit in the night time someday, it's good to leave a torchlight or two in the house because the lightings aren't ready yet. Or you may also bring a floor lamp for bigger zone temporary light source.

#12 Storage box / Bag: You can also bring a storage box to keep all the above-mentioned prepared items and leave it in the bomb shelter (or storeroom) for future visits.

Hope this list helps! Good Luck!
