Covid Positive: What you need to know and What to do next

A surge in the number of people who tested Covid positive in recent weeks, and it's really something to be worried about. Many people whom I know, got the virus... when it's just so sudden, there was just not enough time to find the correct resources to help them along. As I didn't get the virus before, I couldn't say I know 100% of how it feels or what it is like.

However, I would like to share some of the information I've obtained during my struggles taking care of my loved ones tested Positive.

If you've tested Positive for the Covid-19 virus, you'll be issued an Isolation order for 10 days.

For the Home Recovery Programme,  the room require to be:

- Well ventilated: with windows open
- Comes with an attached toilet and a closed-door: so you won't need to leave the room for whichever reason.

During the Home Recovery/Isolating period:

-Do not leave your room.
-Maintain a high level of personal hygiene by washing hands regularly with soap.
-Your household should not have visitors during this period of time.
-Monitor your symptoms, pulse rate, oxygen saturation rate & temperature every day
-In case of medical emergencies, call 995

The form that you will receive by SMS within 24 hours, will ask you to fill up the necessary information. So if you do not have a room that has an attached toilet, you will need to declare in the form. It is possible that you may be isolated in the Hospital, Hotel, or community care facility. The isolation order is default to be at home, however, if your home is not suitable for isolation, you'll be sent to the Hotel if you don't have health complications. This is to ensure that Hospital beds go to those who need them most.

Many people would have worried about the cost of a hotel stay, and I'm glad to say the Government has been very nice to us. You won't have to pay a single cent, your role is to do the packing of your essential daily needs and to isolate yourself in the Hotel room.

Some of the things that you may consider bringing along to the Hotel:

-Mobile phone/iPad + it's cable/charges
-Change of clothes (for at least 10 days)
-Any Regular medication
-Vitamin C/Lozenges/Cough syrup/Panadol
-Dishwashing liquid/Magiclean
-Toilet Cleaning Accessories (no cleaner cleaning for you in 10days stay)
-Air Freshener
-Plastic bags (in case for vomit)
-Scissors & Nail clippers (must hide)
-Hangers
-Jackets/Sweater
-Ear Plugs (you may not stay alone if the hotel is out of rooms)
-Snacks (if desired or may have gastric issue)
-Mouth gargle

The hotel will be providing 3 meals; Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner for you and will do Laundry for you by daily evening/night.

For people who are serving Quarantine order in your own home can ask your family member to place your meals outside your room so you can collect contactless-ly when you're ready to eat inside your room. Your family members/people who stay in the same house as you are considered as CLOSE-CONTACT, they have to take ART kit tests every time before they step out of the house. If you do not have anyone at home who can help you with your meals, alternate meal ideas could be ordered from:

1-Food Delivery platforms
such as Grab Food, Foodpanda, Deliveroo, or Oddles - usually comes with a Delivery fee of $3 & above per stall (depending on location), or Free Delivery with a minimum purchase

2-F&B's own food delivery services - usually come with a Delivery fee of $10 & above per stall, or Free Delivery with a minimum purchase

3-Tingkat Delivery Services - Trial Period Tingkat for 10 days (for lunch/dinner), the average price is $100-190, require 2-3 days in the advanced booking (2-3 dishes, 1 soup (healthy meal package for 1 pax))

When I tried to call many of the Trial Period Tingkat Delivery companies, many of them are fully booked especially the cheaper & affordable ones. As there are really many people in need of the 10-days Tingkat service, it's really challenging to secure any one of them. Unless otherwise, going for the 1 month period's Tingkat. However, it is not impossible. There are multiple companies doing the Trial Period Tingkat, click here to view the options from Google

The fourth option which I've found along the way is Covid Support Group, many of them in the group are serving their Home Recovery Programme aka Isolation order. In the group chat, there are 2 staff from MOH deployed to assist the group members if there are any urgent cases.

4-Contact Evonne - she is Assists and manages a group of volunteers doing Groceries Delivery to help people who can't find other ways to deliver food/groceries for themselves. They don't charge any delivery fees, you only need to pay for what you want to get (with proven receipts). The volunteers are working adults who are kind to help those who are in need. Evonne is contactable on Telegram: www.t.me/Evonnetjx

While waiting for MOH to clear their backlog and contact you, you can join Support Group for those under Home Recovery Programme: https://t.me/SGQuarantineOrder , from there you can read the FAQs and “search” the chat group for answers. There are also other useful links below in the chat group. If you cannot find an answer, they welcome you to crowdsource from here.

If joining a Telegram group chat isn't something you prefer, you can also call the Home Recovery Buddy hotline for an Officer to attend to you: 6874 4939

PSA: Beware of scam calls impersonating MOH. Automated calls or calls with +65 are scam calls. But, Whatsapp calls with +65 may be legit.

Last but not least, I'm really touched and glad there's such a community to help those in need. I really feel they are very brave as they risked their lives in line to help others. Not just the frontline are great, the volunteers too.
